Woodman Point Regional Park

Woodman Point juts into Cockburn Sound from Munster, and its network of coastal paths is open to dogs on a lead. The one catch is the beach, where dogs are banned from Ammunition Jetty south around the headland.

Where the lead goes on

The regional park is run by the Parks and Wildlife Service, with the City of Cockburn setting the dog rules for its beaches. Dogs must be on a lead everywhere they are permitted.

The beach from Ammunition Jetty around the headland is closed to dogs to protect nesting shorebirds. Dogs are also excluded from the holiday park.

The walk

Paths range from limestone and asphalt shared paths to compacted sand and the odd gravel fire trail. The network links up, so you can do a short stroll or a longer loop.

Expect views across Cockburn Sound and Owen Anchorage, native peppermint trees and remnants of the old quarantine station.

Max: The sand looks tempting from the path. Keep the lead short near the headland, where the beach is off limits for dogs.

Water and parking

Bins sit near the car parks and picnic areas, but water points are sparse on the outer trails, so carry water and bags. Free parking is near the recreation reserve and picnic spots.

For an off-lead swim, Jervoise Bay Dog Beach is close by, and Woodies Boat Storage and Cafe is handy for a coffee.

Coastal trees give patchy shade and the open stretches are exposed, so summer walks are best early or late.
