Wilson Wetlands Boardwalk

Wilson Wetlands sits in Canning River Regional Park in Wilson, next to Cannington, a lagoon ringed with birdlife and river vegetation. Boardwalks and sealed paths keep paws out of the mud, and dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

The Parks and Wildlife Service, part of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, manages the area. Dogs must be on a lead at all times to protect the birds and native animals.

The walk

A sealed dual path for walkers and cyclists runs past the lagoon, with boardwalk sections over the wetland. Watch for bikes and keep your dog to one side.

Mature trees give patches of shade, but some open stretches take full sun. The route links to longer walks such as the Woodloes Walk Trail and the Butterflies, Birds and Bridges Trail.

Getting started

Kent Street Weir is the main hub, with parking, toilets, picnic spots and a cafe. Water points on the boardwalk itself are few, so bring some for the dog.

Make a day of it

Kynd Coffee in Cannington is handy for a coffee, and Beckenham Dog Park gives an off-lead run nearby.

When to go

Go early on warm days, before the open sections heat up. The flat sealed paths suit older dogs well.
