Warrandyte River Walk

The Warrandyte River Walk follows the Yarra River through the township of Warrandyte, from Stiggants Reserve towards The Island. Parts of the route let dogs off lead, which is rare for a riverside walk this pretty.

Leads and the off-lead area

Manningham City Council manages most of the river reserve, with Parks Victoria looking after overlapping sections of Warrandyte State Park. Some sections allow dogs off lead, while others are on-lead only.

Dogs must be on a lead near playgrounds and barbecues, and on the stretch between the playspace and the bridge. Watch the signs as you go, since the zones change along the river.

The walk

Expect gravel paths, dirt tracks and some uneven ground with gentle slopes. Manna gums and mature trees shade much of the route, with rocky banks and birdlife along the water.

There is public drinking water in the reserve, and bins are placed through it, though you still need your own bags. Toilets sit near the bridge at the eastern end.

Pepsi: The shallow river edges are made for a cooling paddle. Pick a calm spot and stay close while your dog is in the water.

Getting started

Park along Yarra Street or at nearby access points. Spaces fill quickly on busy weekends and during community events.

Make a day of it

For a run afterwards, Colman Park Dog Off Leash Area is nearby, or pick up a coffee at Warranwood Cafe.

The off-lead sections are a busy social spot for local dogs, so weekday mornings suit dogs that prefer a quieter walk.
