Pooh Corner Bushland Reserve

Pooh Corner Bushland Reserve is a quiet on-lead bushland loop off Wolston Park Road in Wacol, on Brisbane's south-west fringe. The main circuit is a flat, well-formed gravel track of roughly 3.5 to 4 kilometres through natural bush, and it has a loyal following among local dog walkers and birdwatchers. This is a calm, scenery-focused walk rather than a big run, best suited to dogs that are solid on lead around wildlife.

Leash status

Dogs are welcome but must stay on lead for the whole circuit. There is no fenced area and no off-lead zone here, and the rule matters: the reserve is home to eastern grey kangaroos, wallabies and a healthy bird population, with koala habitat in the wider Wacol bushlands. Keep your dog close and don't let them chase wildlife. A dog that bolts after a roo on an unfenced bush track is a genuine risk to both of you.

Max: this is kangaroo and wallaby country, so a leash isn't optional here. Walk it like you mean it.

Water, terrain and hazards

The surface is flat gravel the whole way, easy underfoot and doable in about an hour at a relaxed pace. There is a water fountain near the start that people and dogs can use, but nothing along the route itself, so carry a bottle on warm days. Shade is limited across parts of the circuit. Snakes are a real possibility in bushland like this through the warmer months, so stick to the formed track and keep an eye on where your dog is sniffing.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits off Wolston Park Road in Wacol, reached from the Centenary Highway (M5) following signs to Wacol. There is a free, small car park near the entrance, plus sheltered picnic areas with barbecues and basic toilets. Wacol train station is a short walk away if you would rather arrive on foot. The reserve is open 24 hours.

When to go

Early mornings and weekdays are the quietest times, while weekend mornings bring more walkers and joggers. In summer, go early for the cool and keep the pace easy. Reward a well-mannered bushwalk with a visit to the dog-friendly RSPCA Black Cat Cafe just down the road, and if your dog still has energy to burn, Richlands Dog Park at C.J. Greenfield Park is a short drive away for a proper off-lead run, as is the Forest Lake Sports Fields Fenced Dog Park south of the highway.
