RSPCA Black Cat Café

The RSPCA Black Cat Cafe sits inside the RSPCA Queensland campus at Wacol, a working animal shelter with an adoption centre, vet clinic and pet store on the same grounds. Despite the name, dogs are genuinely welcome, just not through the front door, and the setting makes it one of the more interesting coffee stops in Brisbane's west.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the cafe's shaded outdoor seating area, which is set up for pet owners: water bowls are provided and doggychinos are on the cards, with staff sometimes carrying treats too. Pet dogs stay outside; the indoor space with the cat adoption viewing windows is for human patrons and service animals only. Keep your dog leashed at all times. This is a working shelter with animals coming and going, so a settled dog matters more here than at a regular strip cafe.

Worth knowing

The menu runs to coffee, light meals and cabinet food, and every coffee spend supports the shelter's work. The World for Pets store next door allows dogs inside, so you can browse the aisles together after your table. Between the cat viewing windows and the shelter grounds, expect to leave with more than you came for.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 139 Wacol Station Road, Wacol, on the RSPCA campus, a short drive off the Ipswich Motorway. There is ample free on-site parking, and Wacol train station is nearby if you would rather leave the car at home.

Close by with the dogs
