Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve

Doonan Creek Environment Reserve is a big slice of protected bushland west of Peregian Springs, entered from Doonan Bridge Road East at Verrierdale. Dogs can walk the signed trails on lead, under a deep canopy that keeps things cool.

Leads and no-go zones

Sunshine Coast Council manages the reserve for conservation. Dogs are allowed on a leash only, and only on permitted, signed trails in the eastern sections.

The sensitive western conservation zones are off limits to dogs. Koalas, gliders and eastern grey kangaroos live here, which is why the rules are strict.

The walk

Most of the network is unpaved fire trail of gravel, earth and patches of rough rubble rock. Council has laid concrete paths in some visitor areas for easier access.

Along the way you pass gallery forest, remnant wetland and coastal floodplain country.

Max: The rubble sections are hard on paws. Watch the footing, keep the lead short, and turn back if you reach a no-dogs sign.

Before you go

There is no water or bins out on the trails, so carry both water and waste bags back to the upgraded car park.

The shade makes this a good summer walk for dogs that are fine on a lead and calm around wildlife.
