River Torrens Linear Park Trail

What locals call the Vale Park riverside walk is the Vale Park stretch of the River Torrens Linear Park Trail, a flat, paved path along the river in the Town of Walkerville. Dogs are welcome, but only on lead.

Lead rules

Walkerville council requires dogs on a lead no longer than 2 metres along the Linear Park and the shared paths in Vale Park. Cyclists use the path too, so a short lead makes passing easier.

For an off-lead run, Frome Reserve on Jeffery Road has a council dog exercise area beside the river.

The walk

The path winds along the river corridor under mature river red gums, with native revegetation, grassy reserves and plenty of birdlife. The gums give steady shade for most of the way.

It is flat and sealed throughout, so it suits older dogs and anyone after an easy stroll. Low sections can flood briefly after heavy rain.

Bins are at the connecting reserves, but water along the path is hit and miss, so bring a bowl. Street parking is easy from the surrounding residential streets and near Lochiel Park.

Summer mornings are ideal here, when the red gums shade the path and the river birds are busy.
