Walkerville Oval

Walkerville Oval is the town's sporting hub on Smith Street, and it doubles as a designated off-lead exercise area. When the club sides are not using the ground, dogs get a big open field to stretch out on.

Off-lead rules

The Town of Walkerville allows dogs off lead here only under effective control. In practice that means your dog comes when called, stays close and stays in sight.

Keep clear of the pitch when formal sport is on, and keep your dog away from the fenced children's playground.

Around the oval

A concrete perimeter path, with accessible links through to Alfred Street, passes the cricket practice nets and the playground. Mature trees and seating around the edge give some shade.

Dog bag stations are on site, along with accessible toilets and free parking. Bring water and a bowl, since dog-height drinking points are not a sure thing.

Make a day of it

Grab a coffee at Coffee Institute in Walkerville, or add a second stop at Hannaford Reserve in St Peters.

When to go

Check for club fixtures before you head over, because the open grass is only yours when the pitch is free. It suits dogs with solid recall that enjoy space to run.
