Randell Park Reserve

Randell Park Reserve is a large, hilly bushland reserve in the foothills of Torrens Park, South Australia. Leash status. The reserve operates under effective-control rules, meaning dogs can be off-leash within the park provided they respond to voice commands and stay within sight at all times. Dogs must be on a lead no longer than two metres on the public streets and footpaths leading to the park. Obey on-site signage, as some high-traffic areas or spots near playgrounds may require leashing. All dogs must be registered under the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995. The walk. Trails here are extensive, steep, and unsealed. Expect narrow paths through bushland with elevation changes that reward you with scenic views over Adelaide. Trail maps and biodiversity signage are posted at the main entrances.

Water. There are no toilets or water fountains on-site. Bring enough water for both you and your dog, especially on warmer days when the climb will dehydrate you faster than you expect.

Hazards. The main hazards are the steep terrain and shared-use trails. Mountain bikers use these paths and can appear quickly around corners. They are required to give way, but a dog that bolts or chases wheels on a narrow track is a serious safety risk.

Getting there and parking. Access is best by car. Informal roadside parking is limited near entrance points such as Braemar Road. Adelaide Metro bus routes run along Old Belair Road, but reaching the reserve from the main road involves a steep walk uphill.

Crowd timing. Weekends and the early morning or late afternoon weekday slots are busiest. Mid-morning on a weekday is noticeably quieter and a better window if your dog prefers space from others.

Nearby with the dogs. Pair the hike with a stop at Dog Park - Mitcham for a fenced off-leash run if you want a more controlled social space afterwards.
