The Aboriginal Heritage Walk Trail

The Aboriginal Heritage Walk Trail at The Spectacles is a 5 km loop through paperbark woodlands, Banksia forest, and wetlands in Beeliar Regional Park, Kwinana. Dogs are welcome but must stay on-leash the entire way, which is the main factor in deciding whether this trail suits you and your dog.

The walk. A 5 km loop over dirt track, accessed directly from the McLaughlin Road car park. Interpretive panels cover Noongar culture, flora, and fauna along the route. Scenery moves between paperbark woodlands, Banksia forest, and open wetland areas, with a bird hide and a small wooden platform as focal points.

Leash status. On-leash at all times, no exceptions. The trail passes through fragile wetlands with active nesting birds, so keeping your dog on the established path matters here.

Hazards and watch-outs. Snakes are sometimes seen on the path, so stay alert. Sections of the trail can be damp or flooded during winter, particularly after heavy rain. Pick a dry day if you want to avoid standing water on the track.

Getting there. Take the Anketell Road exit off Kwinana Freeway (Highway 1), turn west, and continue to the dedicated car park on McLaughlin Road. Public transport access is limited, so driving is the practical option.

On-site amenities. A car park and interpretation panels. No toilets or public amenities, so plan accordingly before you arrive.

Nearby with the dogs. For a coffee after the walk, Sul Lago Lifestyle in Beeliar is the closest option. If your dog still has energy to burn off-leash, Peace Park Parmelia is a short drive away.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon is best for cooler temperatures, thinner crowds, and better bird watching from the hide. Weekends are busier, especially in the morning. After heavy rain, give the track a few days to dry out. A solid choice for on-leash dogs who enjoy a longer loop with plenty of scent work along the way.
