Ted Jackson Reserve

Ted Jackson Reserve is the grassy foreshore at the southern end of Dee Why Beach, beside the promenade and the cafes of The Strand. Northern Beaches Council allows dogs here on lead only, and dogs are not allowed on the beach or in the rockpools.

The walk

This is a short stroll on a paved promenade rather than a long route, and it forms part of the local coastal and heritage walks. You pass the fenced Michaela Howie playground, open lawns and ocean views.

Some listings describe the reserve as off-leash, but it is not.

Max: The sand and the rockpools are off limits. Keep me on the grass and the promenade.

Water and shade

There are water stations on site and bins along the foreshore and promenade. Pine trees give partial shade.

Street parking and nearby car parks serve the beach and the reserve.

Make a day of it

The Strand is lined with cafes, so try DY Local or Urban Nook for a coffee after the walk.

It suits a sociable dog on a short lead and a coffee run, rather than a big exercise session.
