The short version. DY Local is a neighbourhood cafe on Oaks Ave in central Dee Why, a short walk back from the beachfront. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables out front, which makes it an easy coffee stop on the way to or from the promenade.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the footpath seating along the front of the cafe. Inside is reserved for people (assistance dogs excepted, as with any NSW food premises). Staff are used to regulars bringing their dogs, but bring your own water bowl to be sure of one on a warm day.

Good to know. The draw here is the coffee and a solid breakfast run: bacon and egg rolls, acai bowls, latte art and generous serves come up often in reviews. Service gets consistent praise for being warm and quick.

Getting there. Find it at Shop 1/23 Oaks Ave. Street parking on Oaks Ave fills through the morning rush, so the council car parks in the Dee Why town centre are the safer bet. It is an easy flat walk from the beachfront.

Nearby with the dogs. The Dee Why Beach promenade is a few minutes away on-leash, and there is green space along the beachfront reserve. Note that dogs are not permitted on the Dee Why sand itself, so keep to the paths.
