Tanunda Creek Linear Park

Tanunda Creek Linear Park traces the creek along the edge of Tanunda, the Barossa town next door to Krondorf. It is a quiet on-lead stroll under creek-line gums, where the township runs out and the vineyards begin.

Lead rules

The Barossa Council requires dogs on lead along linear parks and shared paths, and this is one of them. Keep the lead clipped on for the whole walk.

The walk

The path is formed, with sealed and compacted gravel sections that are easy underfoot. Native trees line the creek and the birdlife keeps a curious dog busy.

Shade comes and goes. Mature eucalypts cover parts of the route, but the open stretches take the full sun on warm days.

Before you set off

The creek may run in some seasons, but there are few if any bubblers on the path, so pack water and a bowl. Bins sit at the reserve access points rather than along the track, so carry bags.

Parking is informal, on the roadside near the access points.

Max: The conservation parks around Tanunda, such as Kaiserstuhl, generally do not allow dogs. Stay on the linear park and read the council signs before you wander further.

Make a day of it

Finish in town with a coffee at Wohlers Cafe, or a cold one at Rehn Bier Brewery.

When to go

Mornings and the cooler months suit it best, because the open sections heat up. The easy surface and slow, sniffy pace suit older dogs better than dogs that need a run.
