Freshwater Park

Freshwater Park, on Ada Avenue in Strathfield, sits right on the Cooks River shared path, so a short park stroll can turn into a long riverside walk. Dogs must stay on a lead, as it is not a leash-free area.

The walk

The concrete shared path is part of the Bay to Bay walking and cycling route along the Cooks River. Through the park you pass open lawn, a small playground and the green river corridor.

Cyclists use the path too, so keep your dog to one side.

Lead rules

Strathfield Council requires dogs on lead in its parks and along the path network. The nearest off-lead space is Elliot Reserve Fenced Dog Park, which also links into the river path.

Water and shade

There is a drinking fountain near the playground, and bins around the park. Picnic shelters and mature trees give decent shade.

Parking is on the street around Ada Avenue.

Keep going

Add Dean Reserve for another walk nearby, or stop for a coffee at Garden House Cafe in Enfield.

Upgraded seating and shade make it a comfortable rest stop, and the flat paved path suits older dogs.
