River Torrens Linear Park

The Lockleys stretch of the River Torrens Linear Park is a shaded riverside path with water for dogs built in at the access points. Dogs stay on lead, because walkers and cyclists share the whole path.

Lead rules

The City of West Torrens requires dogs on lead on the shared walking and cycling path. Some reserves nearby have their own off-lead areas, but the main path is not one of them.

The walk

The sealed path follows the winding river through wetland plantings and suburban parkland. Mature trees along the banks give plenty of shade, and the birdlife is steady the whole way.

Seats and shelters are spaced along the path, so it is easy to set your own distance.

Getting started

Michael Street and Riverview Drive are the main access points, both with on-street parking. Each has drinking fountains with dog bowls, and bag dispensers sit at the entry points.

Max: Bikes come through quickly on a shared path. Keep the lead short and your dog on your side of the path.

Make a day of it

Stop for a coffee at coffee by the beans, then let the dog off at Tedder Reserve Pooch Park, a fenced dog park.

When to go

The river shade makes it one of the better summer walks in the area, especially early on hot days. It suits dogs of any age that walk nicely on a lead.
