Redlynch Village Green

A huge old fig shades the playground at Redlynch Village Green, a neighbourhood park off Harvey Road with paved paths and open lawn. The part dog owners come for is the off-leash area at the railway line end.

Leads and the off-lead area

Cairns Regional Council has set aside the railway line end of the parkland, behind the houses in Ficus Close, as a dog off-leash area. It is not fenced, so only let go of dogs with good recall.

Everywhere else, including the playground and the general park, dogs stay on lead.

The walk

Paved paths cross the green, with open grass and established trees giving some shade. There is parking right beside the park off Harvey Road.

There are general bins, but little in the way of water for dogs, so bring a bottle and a bowl.

Max: Crystal Cascades and the Mount Whitfield tracks nearby do not allow dogs, so plan the rest of the day around that.

For a fenced run, try Gamburra Drive Park Fenced Dog Park. Generation Coffee and Juice Bar is the local stop for a drink.

Early morning or late afternoon suits the tropical heat best, and the flat paths suit dogs of any age.
