Gamburra Drive Park Fenced Dog Park

Gamburra Drive Park Fenced Dog Park is a council-designated, fully fenced off-leash area in the Redlynch Valley, on the northern side of Huntley Crescent just east of the local BMX jumps and the creek. For a suburb hemmed in by rainforest-clad hills, it is one of the few places local dogs get a secure, enclosed run, and it is open around the clock.

The dog setup

The enclosure is a proper fenced run with a double-gate entry, so there is no bolting mid-unclip. Inside the fence dogs are off lead under Cairns Regional Council's standard rules: stay in the enclosure with your dog, keep effective control, close both gates behind you and pick up straight away. Outside the fence the suburb is normal on-leash territory, so keep the lead on in the car park and on the approach. Bags are sometimes stocked but treat that as a bonus, and bring your own.

Max: the double gate only works if you latch the first gate before opening the second. With creek-side scrub nearby, a fast dog does not need a second invitation.

Worth knowing

Mature trees throw decent shade across the run and the broader park has a playground, paths and the BMX jumps, so it works for mixed households. The creek runs close by and dogs do paddle in it, but this is tropical Far North Queensland: flows rise fast in the wet season and crocodile sightings do get reported in Redlynch waterways from time to time, so check current council warnings before letting a dog swim and skip it after heavy rain. There is no confirmed tap at the off-leash area, so carry water and a bowl.

Getting there and parking

The park sits at the Huntley Crescent end of Gamburra Drive in Redlynch, about 15 minutes' drive from central Cairns via Kamerunga Road, with parking on the street beside the reserve. Sunbus services through Redlynch Village leave a short walk to the entrance.

Close by with the dogs

Generation Coffee and Juice Bar in the Redlynch village is the easy caffeine stop before or after a session. If the fence is busy, Impey Reserve Dog Off Leash Area at Caravonica is a short drive back towards the city. Staying over, Crystal Cascades Holiday Park is a dog-friendly base in the same valley.
