Queens Walk Oval

Queens Walk Oval, on the corner of Risdon Road and Brooker Avenue in New Town, is a City of Hobart sportsground where dogs can run off lead whenever the field is not in use.

Off lead, with conditions

The oval works as an off-lead space outside organised sport, school use, council maintenance and formal bookings. When any of those are on, keep your dog off the field or firmly restrained.

Winter soccer and summer cricket both use the ground, so expect it to be busy in season.

What's here

There is a car park off Queens Walk, reached from Risdon Road, plus street parking, public toilets and bins.

Shade on the turf is limited and there is no dedicated dog water, so bring a bowl and a bottle. Busy roads border the oval, so clip the lead back on well before you head to the car.

Make a day of it

Many locals use the oval as a stepping stone to the Cornelian Bay foreshore. For something fenced, try John Turnbull Park Fenced Dog Park in Lenah Valley, or refuel at Bam Cafe & Bakery in New Town.

When to go

Aim for times without fixtures or school use, such as early mornings. It suits dogs with solid recall, given the open field and the traffic close by.
