Punchbowl Reserve

Punchbowl Reserve follows the Kings Meadows Rivulet through a rock fissure in Launceston's southern suburbs, and its sealed trail is open to dogs as long as they stay on lead.

Lead rules

The City of Launceston requires dogs on a leash at all times in the reserve. They must also stay at least 10 metres clear of the children's play space.

The walk

The sealed track winds through bushland with a thick natural canopy, so most of it is shaded. Along the rivulet you pass the seasonal Punchbowl Falls, rhododendron plantings and a duck pond set among open grassy picnic spots.

The reserve has picnic and barbecue areas, public toilets and day-use parking. Dog water and bag stations are limited on the bush tracks, so carry both.

Max: Keep the lead short around the duck pond and give the play space its full 10 metre berth.

For an off-lead run afterwards, try the Hardwicke Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park. For a longer bush outing, Hoo Hoo Hut, Trevallyn Nature Reserve is the next step up.

When to go

Spring brings the rhododendron display, the reserve's best-known season. The falls are seasonal, so do not count on water in the fissure every visit. The shade makes it a good summer walk too.
