Point Lookout North Gorge Walk

Few short walks in Queensland match the North Gorge Walk at Point Lookout for ocean drama. Dogs can come too, but they must be on lead at all times.

The walk

The route follows a timber boardwalk and formed gravel and rock tracks around the headland, above deep gorges where the Pacific surges in.

Kangaroos often graze on the headland. Out at sea, look for dolphins, turtles and manta rays, and humpback whales during the migration.

Lead rules

Redland City Council manages the walk. Signs remind you to keep dogs leashed, and the cliff edges are reason enough.

Max: Kangaroos graze right beside the boardwalk. Keep the lead short and your dog at your side.

Water, shade and parking

The headland is exposed, with almost no shade and no water on the walk. Carry a bottle and a collapsible bowl.

You'll find bins near the headland access points and around the surf club and cafes.

Street parking near the headland and village shops fills fast on weekends and in peak season.

For an off-leash run afterwards, Home Beach at Point Lookout has a signed dog area.

Go early in the morning, before the heat and the crowds, and bring binoculars in whale season.
