Point Arkwright Trail

The Point Arkwright Trail is a coastal cliff-top walking track on the Sunshine Coast, extending between Coolum Beach and Yaroomba. The single defining feature is its series of elevated ocean lookouts, giving walkers a reliable vantage point for spotting dolphins, turtles, seasonal whales and osprey.

The walk. The trail is a short to moderate coastal path connecting several maintained viewing platforms. It is not a loop. The track stays on higher ground and offers multiple exit points to the road or beach access tracks below. The walking surface requires attention, as paths can be narrow, sandy and uneven with exposed tree roots.

Leash status. Dogs must be on-leash on all paths and at all times. As of 3 July 2026, new Sunshine Coast Council rules apply to this area to protect wildlife and coastal vegetation, with fines of up to $863 for non-compliance. Dogs are prohibited on the sandy foreshore, in dune areas and in designated environmental protection zones along this strip.

Amenities and access. Occasional benches and picnic tables are located along the route. Street parking is available near the Point Arkwright Viewpoint off Jubilee Esplanade, but it is limited. TransLink buses run along David Low Way with stops near the scenic area if you prefer public transport. Bins for dog waste are located near park access points.

Nearby with the dogs. For off-leash exercise, Coolum Beach Off-Leash Dog Beach and the Stumers Creek Dog Off-Leash Area are a short drive away. For a post-walk coffee, Rock Hop Espresso and Ma Boulange Cafe are both in Coolum Beach. If you are staying longer, Coolum Beach Holiday Park offers accommodation nearby.

When to go. Early mornings and late afternoons are cooler and less crowded. Saturday and Sunday mornings are the busiest periods. The cliff-top track is enjoyable at both high and low tide, but check the tide chart if you plan to use the sandy beach access points below the cliff.
