Pipemakers Park Shared Path

Bluestone industrial buildings, native gardens and pipe-making sculptures line the Maribyrnong River at Pipemakers Park, an on-lead walk with a proper off-lead reserve just up the hill.

Leads and the off-lead area

Maribyrnong City Council requires dogs on lead throughout Pipemakers Park and on the shared paths. The whole of Thompson Reserve, on the escarpment above the park, is a designated off-lead area with agility equipment.

The walk

Sealed asphalt and unsealed gravel and earth tracks wind through the heritage grounds and join the Maribyrnong River Trail. Mature trees and sheltered seats give some shade along the way.

Drive in via the park driveway off the Gordon Street and Van Ness Avenue roundabout. Drinking fountains and waste bag dispensers are on site, with upgraded facilities at Thompson Reserve.

Finish with a run at Thompson Reserve Dog Off Leash Area, or keep walking on the Maribyrnong River loop.

When to go

Do the on-lead heritage stroll first, then let the dog loose at Thompson Reserve, where the ridge gives wide views over the river valley. It suits dogs that need both a sniff and a sprint.
