Pat's Park

Pat's Park is Macleay Island's waterfront picnic ground, and from its lawns an informal shoreline walk runs over volcanic rock, pebbles and shells. It is on-lead throughout, and low tide is the time to go.

Lead rules

Redland City Council treats Pat's Park as a standard public park, so dogs stay on a lead. They are not allowed in or in front of the swimming enclosure, or within 10 metres of play equipment.

The walk

Start on the grass among the picnic tables, then drop onto the rock, sand and stone of the shore. At low tide, oystercatchers work the waterline and the colourful pebbles are easiest to see.

Mature trees shade the grass, and there are toilets, taps, bins and electric barbecues near the picnic area. Parking is on site.

Max: Volcanic rock and loose stones make for uneven footing. Take it slowly with older dogs.

Make a day of it

For off-lead play, the island's fenced Macleay Island dog park on Attunga Street has a water station and room to run.

When to go

Check the tide times and aim for low water. It suits dogs happy to amble and sniff rather than run.
