Brunswick Valley Heritage Park

Brunswick Valley Heritage Park, known locally as Heritage Park, sits in Mullumbimby on the banks of the Brunswick River off Mill Street. Its draw is a signed off-lead stretch beside a shaded arboretum of native rainforest trees.

Leads and the off-lead area

Byron Shire Council lets dogs run off-lead along Mill Street, from opposite Gordon Street to opposite Stuart Street. Outside that stretch, keep the lead on.

Dogs must stay out of the Maslen Arboretum, and at least 10 metres from the children's play equipment and the barbecue areas.

The walk

The main paths are paved concrete with boardwalk sections, so the riverside walk stays usable after rain. Softer mulch tracks lead into the arboretum, but that part is off limits to dogs.

Hundreds of native trees and scattered sculptures line the river, and the mature canopy keeps much of the walk in shade.

Getting started

There is free street parking along Mill Street. Bins and covered picnic tables are on site, but running water near the river path is limited, so bring a bottle and bowl for the dog.

Max: The off-lead run ends opposite Gordon and Stuart streets. Call your dog in before either end, and give the playground and barbecues a wide berth.

Come early on a warm day and make the most of the river shade. The paved paths suit older dogs and prams alike.
