Billiau Rd Car Park

Billiau Rd Car Park is the trailhead for the Eastern Escarpment Conservation Area, a steep fire trail climbing to a lookout with views over Moreton Bay and the Redlands. It is quieter than most local walks, mostly because the climb puts off casual visitors, which suits owners after a proper workout rather than a flat stroll.

The walk. A wide gravel and bitumen fire trail, steep in sections, running from the carpark up to the lookout. It is a there-and-back rather than a loop, and it is exposed for most of the climb with little shade.

Leash status. Dogs must stay on lead the whole way. This is a conservation area, not a fenced off-leash park, and the trail runs close to surrounding private land, so keep to the marked path.

Hazards. No water on the trail at all, so carry enough for both of you, especially in warmer months. The exposed climb gets hot fast with little tree cover.

Getting there. The carpark sits on West Mount Cotton Road near the Billiau Road corner, about ten minutes' drive from Victoria Point or Redland Bay. It is gravel and small, and can fill on weekends, so arrive early or expect to wait. Public transport does not reach this far, so driving is the only realistic option.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon beats the exposed midday heat. Weekends and sunny Sunday mornings bring the most walkers, but even then it rarely feels crowded. Good for owners after a genuine hill climb with a view at the top rather than a casual flat loop.
