Nurim Circuit, Fraser Park

At the top of Mount Archer, the Nurim Circuit boardwalk loops through Fraser Park with Rockhampton spread out below. Dogs are welcome on lead in this council-run summit park, even though the national park around it bans them.

Lead rules

Rockhampton Regional Council requires dogs to be on a lead at all times in Fraser Park and on the circuit. Dogs must also stay at least 5 metres from barbecues and playground equipment.

Mount Archer National Park, which surrounds the summit, does not allow dogs, so stick to the council park.

The walk

The loop is about 500 metres of flat, elevated boardwalk, and it is wheelchair accessible. Views stretch over the city and the Fitzroy River toward the Capricorn Coast.

Parking at the summit is free. Drinking water can be limited, so bring enough for you and the dog.

Back down the hill, Livin The Bean cafe in Frenchville is a handy coffee stop.

When to go

Late afternoon brings the cooler mountain air and the best light over the city. The short, flat loop suits older dogs and small legs.
