The Dock Cafe Rockhampton

The Dock Cafe is a small, community-run coffee spot on the grounds of Lighthouse Baptist Church at 480 Norman Road, Norman Gardens. It opens weekday mornings only, which gives it the feel of a regulars' stop: barista-made coffee, light meals and sweet treats, casual outdoor tables, and a quiet church-ground setting away from the main strip.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor and footpath seating areas, on a lead and cleaned up after, with no extra charge for bringing one. Water is not guaranteed on tap, so pack a portable bowl. The setup is simple and unfussy: order at the counter, take a table outside and settle your dog at your feet. It suits a well-behaved dog on a morning walk more than a boisterous one, given the shared space.

On the plate

The draw is good quality coffee, hot and cold, alongside a short list of light meals, baked goods and dessert-style treats. It is a breakfast and morning-coffee kitchen rather than an all-day one. Families are well catered for, with high chairs available and the occasional free face-painting morning for kids during the week.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits within the Lighthouse Baptist Church grounds, with free on-site and street parking. Opening hours are 7:30am to 11:30am, Monday to Friday, and closed weekends. Hours can shorten or close during public school holidays, so text ahead on 0460 876 218 before a special trip.

Close by with the dogs

Eddie Baker Dog Park is the suburb's own fenced off-leash option, so a coffee-and-run morning works well here. Kershaw Gardens, a short drive south in Park Avenue, has a dedicated fenced agility park in its central section, with dogs on leash elsewhere in the gardens.
