Cousins On William

Cousins On William is a plant-filled, garden-themed cafe on William Street in the Rockhampton CBD, open from 7am daily with the kitchen winding up at 2:30pm on weekdays and Saturday and 1:30pm Sunday. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, and the footpath tables out front are the ones to aim for, keeping clear of the indoor dining in line with local rules.

The dog setup

The front outdoor tables sit on the footpath, so leashed dogs settle comfortably alongside. Staff have a reputation for being accommodating with water, so ask when you order. The room itself is a quirky, plant-dense space with a large communal table, which is worth seeing even if you take the outside option with a dog.

The menu

The kitchen runs homemade comfort food: apple crumble pancakes, the Cousins breaky burger and a Mount Archer avocado smash with bacon headline breakfast, while a steak, caramelised onion and cheddar grilled Turkish covers lunch. Coffee uses Cherry Mouth Roasters beans, and the cabinet rotates house-baked muffins, carrot cake and cherry cheesecake. Sticky chai lattes and iced drinks round out the list.

Getting there and parking

The address is Shop 1/146 William Street, near the corner of William and Campbell Streets, a block back from the Fitzroy River. Street parking runs along William Street and the surrounding CBD blocks; arriving before 8am makes a close park easier on weekday mornings.

While you are out there

The Fitzroy riverside paths along Quay Street are an easy leashed stroll from the cafe, though dogs stay on-lead through the Riverside Park precinct. For off-lead time, Wandal Off leash dog Park is a short drive west, with Rockhampton Regional Council requiring dogs leashed on entry and exit and under voice control inside. Other CBD stops include Coffee Society Rockhampton and Blank Cheque Trading Co.
