Rockhampton Riverside Precinct

The riverfront path through the Rockhampton Riverside Precinct runs beside the Fitzroy River and the heritage buildings of Quay Street. It is paved, flat and right next to the city centre, and dogs walk it on a lead.

Lead rules

Rockhampton Regional Council requires dogs to stay leashed on the public walkways and riverside parks. For off-lead time, use a designated area such as Victoria Park.

The walk

Wide concrete paths suit walkers, prams, runners and bikes alike. The views across the river stay with you the whole way.

Drinking fountains are spaced along the precinct and bins are placed regularly, but a travel bowl for your dog is worth packing. Shelters and shade structures break up the open, sunny stretches.

Max: The riverfront gets strong midday sun. Walk early or late and keep your dog off the hottest concrete.

Street parking and marked bays sit close to most of the precinct.

The city cafes are a short walk away. Try Hummingbird Cafe or Coffee Society Rockhampton.

Smooth and level, it suits older dogs and a relaxed stroll with a coffee stop at the end.
