Middle Park Beach Path

The Middle Park Beach Path runs along the bluestone seawall with Port Phillip Bay on one side and the city skyline in the distance. On the path itself, every dog stays on a leash.

Leads on the path, rules on the sand

The City of Port Phillip requires dogs on a leash on its beach paths, promenades and boardwalks at all times. The sand below has its own seasonal off-leash times, so check the council's current rules before you step down.

The walk

It is a wide paved path, part of the coastal trail that follows the bay around Melbourne. Expect a smooth, flat surface, open water views and sandy stretches just over the seawall.

The path is shared with cyclists, so keep your dog on the inside.

Make a day of it

Middle Park has good coffee close to the water, including Jack the Geezer. For an off-leash run, the Albert Park Dog Off Leash Area is nearby.

Flat and paved, this suits older dogs and anyone after a steady stroll. Bring water for the dog on warm days.
