Melrose Park Ryde River Walk

Melrose Park's foreshore path is not a separately named walk. It is a stretch of the Ryde River Walk along the Parramatta River, with grassy banks and open water views, and dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

The City of Ryde requires dogs to be on lead and under effective control on foreshore paths and in general public spaces. Off-lead play is only allowed in the council's signed off-leash areas.

The walk

The path is paved and landscaped, running beside the river and linking into the Melrose Park reserve. The river stays in view for most of the way.

There is a bubbler at Melrose Park on Lancaster Avenue, and street parking around the park, including accessible spaces. Tree cover is patchy, so bring water for the dog on warm days.

Make a day of it

Malak Dog Park is fenced, with airlock gates, filtered water and sheltered seating, so it is the obvious off-lead stop. H Kitchen is the local cafe to pair with the walk.

When to go

Morning or late afternoon beats the middle of a hot day, given the limited shade. The paved path suits dogs of most ages.
