Cotton Tree Park

Cotton Tree Park sits at the mouth of the Maroochy River in Maroochydore, with sandy river beaches, moored boats and the North Shore across the water. Dogs are welcome on lead, and the rules around the picnic areas are strict.

Lead rules

Sunshine Coast Council requires dogs on lead in the park and on the shared paths. Dogs must stay at least 5 metres from playgrounds, picnic tables and barbecues, and out of the dunes and any signed conservation areas.

Council brought in new dog rules in July 2026, so check the signs when you arrive.

The walk

A paved shared path runs through the park and joins the coastal paths, so the surface is smooth all the way. Mature trees, shade sails and picnic shelters give good cover.

What's there

There are toilets and beach showers in the park and bins throughout. Parking is on site and along Cotton Tree Parade and Beach Parade.

Bubblers for dogs are hard to find along the path, so bring a bowl.

Max: With picnic tables and barbecues everywhere, that 5 metre rule comes up often. A short lead keeps you clear of fines.

When to go

Mornings and late afternoons are the popular times, with a sea breeze off the water. The smooth path suits older dogs, and a calm temperament helps around the picnic crowds.
