Malcolm Creek Wetlands

Malcolm Creek Wetlands follows the creek floodplain through Craigieburn, past old river red gums, wetland pockets and a string of footbridges. It is a calm on-lead walk that rarely feels crowded.

Lead rules

Hume City Council requires dogs to be on a lead at all times along the creek. Melbourne Water supports the waterway itself.

The walk

Sealed footpaths mix with hard-packed gravel, timber boardwalks and bridges, and the going is mostly flat. Birdlife and floodplain smells keep dogs interested the whole way.

The red gums give shade in stretches. The path links with the Golden Sun Moth walk, so it is easy to make the outing longer or shorter.

Getting started

Start near Centennial Park Drive, where there is street parking. Toilets and drinking water are near the trailheads and playgrounds by the wetlands, though a bottle for the dog is still wise.

Make a day of it

Follow up with an off-lead session at Craigieburn Fenced Dog Park or D.S. Aitken Reserve Dog Off Leash Area.

Flat and quiet, it suits older dogs and reactive ones alike. Carry bags, since bins are mostly near the playgrounds.
