Rathdowne Community Fenced Dog Park is a secure, double-gated off-leash area on Olivine Boulevard in Wollert, serving the fast-growing Rathdowne/Olivine estate. It is a genuine fenced run rather than a shared reserve, which is the main reason to choose it over an open park nearby.

The rules. The fenced area is off-leash only within the perimeter; dogs must go back on lead in the surrounding streets and open reserve. Owners need to stay inside the enclosure with their dog and keep voice control, since there is no separate small-dog zone here. Aggressive or reactive dogs should be leashed and removed straight away, and it is worth a quick check of the gate latches and fencing yourself before letting a dog off lead, as wear is normal in a heavily used community park.

What's there. The ground is a mix of open grass, wood-chip and gum trees, with rocks and logs scattered through for dogs that like to sniff and explore. A water tap is provided, plus a scattering of benches and some natural shade from the mature trees, though shade is limited in the open grass sections. Waste bags are usually stocked at the gate, but it is sensible to carry your own as a backup. Grass can turn muddy and worn in wet weather, which is typical for a park this popular.

Getting there. The park sits on Olivine Boulevard, reachable via Donnybrook Road or Epping Road, with on-street parking that fills up at busy times. There is no train station in Wollert itself; Donnybrook Station is the closest, a five to seven minute drive away, and local bus routes through Wollert are worth checking on PTV before relying on them. Bike paths connect through from the surrounding Olivine estate if you are coming on foot or by bike.

Nearby with the dogs. Rustic Corner Cafe on Macedon Parade and 4 Seeds Cafe at Club Rathdowne both sit close by and are known for outdoor seating, worth a coffee stop after a run. There is no pet-friendly accommodation directly in Wollert; Epping and the wider northern Melbourne suburbs are the nearest options if you need somewhere to stay.

Weekday mornings before 8:30am and evenings from 5pm are the busiest, along with Saturday and Sunday mornings between 9 and 11. If your dog prefers a quieter run, the middle of a weekday is the easiest way to get the place close to yourself.
