Maidens Reserve Loop

Maidens Reserve Loop climbs through tuart woodland and coastal heath off Ocean Drive in Bunbury, up to lookouts over the Indian Ocean and back toward the Darling Scarp. Dogs are allowed, on a lead the whole way.

Lead rules

The reserve is part of Kalgulup Regional Park, looked after with the City of Bunbury and Parks and Wildlife Service WA. Dogs must stay on a lead at all times.

The walk

A sealed, wheelchair-accessible path leads up to the lower lookout. Beyond that the loop turns to compacted sand, limestone, boardwalk and stairs over the dunes and ridges.

Banksia, tuart and heath line the track, and plaques name the native plants. You can stretch the walk by dropping onto the beach paths next to the reserve.

Water and shade

There is no water for dogs on the tracks, so carry your own. Shade is patchy across the open dunes and heath.

Max: Sand and stairs are hard work in the heat, and there is little shade up top. Go early and carry water for both of you.

Getting started

Free parking is at the entry off Ocean Drive, near a small playground, barbecues and picnic tables. Back in town, Little Spencer Coffee Co is an easy coffee stop.

When to go

Cool mornings suit this one best. The climbs and soft sand make it better for fit dogs than for older ones.
