Coastal Recreational Path

The Coastal Recreational Path links Ballina and Lennox Head along the coast, roughly 10 kilometres of mostly sealed shared path with Pacific views and basalt cliffs. Dogs are welcome on a short lead.

Lead rules

Ballina Shire Council requires dogs on a short leash on the shared path and in general public spaces. The exceptions are designated off-leash areas and beaches, such as Seven Mile Beach north of the Lennox Head-Alstonville Surf Life Saving Club.

The walk

Most of the path is asphalt and concrete, with short headland links of boardwalk, dirt or grass. It passes sandy beaches, coastal scrub and whale-watching lookouts.

Parking is at the main access points, such as Sharpes Beach and Pat Morton Lookout. Bins and some shade are near the car parks and picnic spots, but the clifftop stretches are exposed.

Dog water bubblers are sparse, so carry your own.

Max: Cyclists share this path. Keep the lead short, especially around the headlands.

When to go

In summer, go early before the exposed clifftops heat up. It suits fit dogs, and the sealed surface keeps the going easy.
