Latina Ave Trail Head Seven Hills Bushland Reserve

The Seven Hills Bushland Reserve trail head at the dead end of Latina Ave opens onto a pocket of eucalypt forest and dry rainforest only minutes from Brisbane's inner east, and it gives locals a quiet, natural on-lead walk without leaving the city. The trade-off is that nothing here is off-leash: as a bushland reserve, the lead rule is permanent.

The walk

The boom-gate entry at Latina Ave leads onto fire trails and well-marked dirt and gravel paths, including the popular 1 km Melaleuca Circuit and a multi-kilometre loop through the roughly 50 hectare reserve along Perrin Creek. The terrain is hilly enough to count as a workout, on a surface that holds up well in most weather. Flat sections near the entrance and steeper gully tracks deeper in let you choose the session length.

Leash status

Dogs must remain on lead at all times under Brisbane City Council rules for bushland reserves, which protect the local fauna habitat. Stay on the designated tracks to limit erosion, and carry bags to clean up after your dog.

Max: if your dog is reactive, aim for early weekday mornings. The reserve is small enough that meeting another dog head-on on a narrow track is hard to avoid at peak times.

Water and amenities

This is natural bushland, not a developed park: there is no tap or bubbler, so bring water for both of you. Waste bags and bins are usually provided at the entry points, and trailhead map boards mark the track starts. Street parking runs along Latina Ave.

Getting there

Drive in via Creek Road or Stanley Road to the Latina Ave dead end. Bus services along Stanley Road and near Pinehurst Street leave a short walk, and Cannon Hill or Morningside stations are the nearest rail options with a decent walk or a connecting bus attached.

The Seven Hills Circuit shares this reserve network, and the Orana Park Dog Fenced Dog Park down the road is where off-leash time actually happens. Keralgerie Park Fenced Dog Park at Morningside is the other nearby yard, and Cab's Cafe covers the coffee end of the walk.

When to go

Weekday afternoons are the quietest; weekend mornings and weekday peaks bring the most foot traffic. Skip the midday summer heat on the exposed upper tracks.
