Kuraby Bushland Park

For a shaded bush walk on Brisbane's south side, Kuraby Bushlands is the local answer: gravel and dirt tracks under open eucalypt forest, with dogs welcome on lead.

Lead rules

This is a bushland reserve managed by Brisbane City Council, not a dog park. Dogs must stay on lead at all times.

The walk

Wide gravel service tracks and narrower dirt paths roll over small hills, with some rocky and uneven patches. Watch for the boulder formations and the birdlife along the way.

The canopy is generous, so most of the walk is shaded. Entries include Rubicon Crescent and Chesterfield Crescent, where informal street parking is the norm.

Before you head in

There is no water on the internal tracks, so carry enough for the dog. Bins sit near the entry points but not deep inside, so pack bags out with you.

Max: Rocky ground and wildlife scents are a lot to take in. Keep the lead short and the pace steady.

Wally Tate Park Fenced Dog Park is the place for an off-lead run afterwards, with water and shaded seating.

When to go

Weekdays are generally quieter, which suits calm or reactive dogs. The shade makes it one of the better summer walks in the area.
