Koonung Creek Linear Park

Koonung Creek Linear Park follows the creek through Box Hill North, with a sealed trail and pockets of open reserve where dogs can run. The catch is that the lead has to stay on along the main path.

Leads and the off-lead area

Whitehorse City Council looks after the Box Hill North stretch, and Manningham City Council the sections toward Bulleen and Donvale. Dogs must be on lead on the main shared trail and within 5 metres of it.

Away from the path, designated open areas allow dogs off lead. Keep them well clear of playgrounds, barbecues and sports ovals.

The walk

The main trail is sealed asphalt, with gravel and dirt tracks along parts of the creek bank. It passes native eucalypts, grassy parkland and wetlands full of birdlife, with the Eastern Freeway humming alongside.

Max: This is a busy shared commuter path. Keep your dog close on the asphalt and save the zoomies for the open areas.

Nearby, Eram Park Dog Off Leash Area offers another run, and Cafe Kahvila is close by for a coffee.

Bring water for your dog. The park suits dogs that walk nicely on lead and then enjoy a free run on grass.
