Cafe Kahvila

Cafe Kahvila is a small neighbourhood coffee shop on Trawool Street in Box Hill North, built around specialty coffee on a Wega machine, toasted sandwiches including a Cubano and a Reuben, and matcha lattes. It doubles as a community space for local artists and events, with weekend meat platters and brisket specials adding some ambition beyond the standard cafe menu. Website hours run 6:30am to 3pm weekdays and 8am to 4:30pm on weekends.

The dog setup

No published pet policy exists, so plan on the outdoor tables with your dog on a lead and a quick check with staff on arrival. It is a low-key, local-regulars kind of place on a residential street, which makes for easy footpath coffee, and carrying your own water bowl removes the only uncertainty.

Pair the coffee with a walk: Eram Park Dog Off Leash Area is in Box Hill North itself, and the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary trails are a short drive east.
