John Mountford Reserve

John Mountford Reserve is a neighbourhood park on Welfare Avenue in Narwee, with a paved path looping past lawns, shade trees and tennis courts. Dogs are welcome on lead only, since the reserve is not a designated off-leash area.

Lead rules

The City of Canterbury Bankstown manages the reserve and does not list it as an off-leash park. Keep your dog leashed for the whole visit.

Families use the playground, electric barbecues and four tennis courts, so a short lead helps around those spots.

The walk

The paved concrete path doubles as a cycleway, so expect bikes as well as prams. It is flat and steady, an easy loop for any dog.

Bins sit at the entrances and by the picnic shelters, and there are public toilets and sheltered seats. Bubblers are not a given, so bring water.

Street parking is along Welfare Avenue and the surrounding streets.

Make a day of it

For off-lead play, Richard Podmore Reserve Fenced Dog Park is also in Narwee, and Cafe 52 is on hand for a coffee.

When to go

Pockets of tree shade help on warm days. This short, flat loop suits older dogs, a quick after-work walk, or a family picnic with the dog along.
