Richard Podmore Reserve Fenced Dog Park sits on Karne Street North in Narwee, a fully enclosed off-leash yard with a double-gated entry, grass underfoot and enough mature trees to keep a summer visit bearable. It is a proper run, not just a fenced corner of a bigger park.

The rules. Dogs stay on-leash until you are through both gates of the double-gated entry, then it is off-leash inside the enclosure. There is no separate area for small or nervous dogs, so keep a close eye on introductions. Owners are required to clean up after their dogs, and while bag dispensers are on-site, it is worth carrying your own as a backup.

What's there. The reserve has basic agility equipment for dogs that want a job to do, a drinking fountain, park benches under shaded trees, and waste bins at the main entry and exit.

Getting there. Karne Street North is a quiet residential street with generally easy free parking close to the entrance. It is also a short leashed walk from Narwee station on the T8 Airport and South Line if you are coming without a car.

Watch-outs. The lower, shadier sections hold water and get muddy after heavy Sydney rain, so factor that in before a white-dog visit.

Nearby with the dogs. Cafe 52 is close by on Broadarrow Road for a coffee afterwards, with outdoor seating that welcomes dogs.

When to go. Early mornings from 7 to 9am and late afternoons from about 4:30 to 6pm draw the most regulars and the most dog traffic. For a quieter, calmer run, aim for the late morning to early afternoon window instead. Good for confident dogs that enjoy meeting others, with the caveat to watch first introductions closely since there is no small-dog separation.
