f'coffee is a family-run cafe on Railway Parade in Mortdale that locals rate close to perfect, and it earns it the unglamorous way: fast, friendly service, seriously good coffee and cheap, filling food from 6am on weekdays. For dog owners it is a straightforward morning stop, with outdoor seating where a settled dog is welcome while you wait for your order.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, and the crew is hospitable with pets. Ask at the counter for a water bowl if you need one. The one thing to manage is the street: Railway Parade traffic is constant, so keep your dog on a short lead and close to the table. This is a cafe stop, not a training ground.

Max: short lead, calm settle, feet out of the foot traffic. Save the off-leash work for the park afterwards.

The vibe

The food list is working-class brilliant: bacon and egg rolls, breakfast wraps, toasties and jaffles, including a cheeseburger jaffle and a reuben. Coffee uses single origin beans, and the regulars will tell you the flat white is the benchmark. Everything comes out quick, which is the point of the place. Saturdays run 7am to 1pm, Sundays it is shut, and weekday service winds up mid afternoon.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is a short walk from Mortdale station, which makes it an easy stop on a train-line walk. Free street parking runs along Railway Parade and the surrounding streets, with more options near the Cook Avenue end. Weekday mornings are busy but fast-moving; Saturday morning is the social peak.

Close by with the dogs

Pair the coffee with a run at Arrowsmith Park in Penshurst, or make it a cafe crawl with South Pour Sydney up the line. For a longer leashed loop, Oatley Park is the big weekend option nearby.
