Holroyd Gardens

Holroyd Gardens is an easy, flat loop in Merrylands, where paved paths wind past old brickworks ruins and a duck pond. It is on-lead only, with no off-leash area inside the gardens.

Lead rules

Cumberland City Council requires dogs to stay on a leash at all times here. The gardens sit on the corner of Pitt Street and Walpole Street.

The walk

The tracks are asphalt and concrete at an easy grade, crossing open lawns and passing the brickworks remnants. It suits older dogs and anyone who wants a gentle, tidy stroll.

Max: The duck pond is the one spot to watch. Shorten the lead before you get there, not after your dog has seen the ducks.

Water and shade

Drinking fountains sit around the grounds, and bins line the main paths and picnic spots. Mature trees shade parts of the walk, and three sheltered picnic areas make a good rest stop.

There is parking off Walpole Street, plus street parking nearby.

For off-lead time, Kurung Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Holroyd is close by. For coffee, try Oliver Brown in Merrylands.

A weekday morning is quietest, before picnic groups take over the shelters.
