Hampden Bridge Bush Loop

Kangaroo Valley's castle-towered Hampden Bridge is the landmark, and this easy 2.4 kilometre bush loop gives you glimpses of it from under the trees, with dogs on lead the whole way.

Lead rules

The track is in the Shoalhaven City Council area and is not a designated off-leash area, so dogs stay on a lead. Stick to the council land around the bridge.

Most of the national parks nearby, including Morton National Park and the Kangaroo River walking tracks, do not allow dogs at all.

Roots, rocks and wildlife

Max: Kangaroos and wombats turn up in this bush, so keep the lead short and your hand firm.

Allow about 40 minutes. The path is natural earth with tree roots and uneven rocky patches, so it is short but worth watching your footing.

The track drops down near the Kangaroo River, where small sandy spots let dogs splash and cool off.

Getting started

Start from the free car park at Hampden Bridge. Bins are limited to the parking and picnic area, and there is no water on the track, so carry some for the dog.

Make a day of it

Back in the village, Valley Bliss Eatery and The Friendly Inn Hotel are handy for a post-walk stop.

When to go

The canopy keeps it shaded, which helps in summer. It suits dogs of most fitness levels, though the roots and rocks are harder going for older dogs.
