Green Spine Shared Path

Wide, smooth and mud-free in any weather, the Green Spine Shared Path is Chirnside Park's everyday connector. It follows the Maroondah Highway reserve from around Manchester and Fletcher roads toward Brushy Creek and the shopping precincts, and dogs are welcome on a lead.

Lead rules

Yarra Ranges Council runs the path, and dogs stay leashed the whole way. It is a busy active transport route shared with cyclists and students, so keep the lead short near the crossings.

The walk

The concrete is about 2.5 metres wide and built for all abilities, with a few elevated boardwalk sections. Native garden beds line much of it, and you pass Oxley Secondary College and Maroondah Golf Park on the way.

Bins sit at the main entry points and road crossings, and there is parking near Fletcher Road and the shopping centres.

Water and shade

Drinking fountains are scarce along the path itself, so bring water and a bowl. Most of the route is open, with young trees rather than real shade.

For off-lead time, Kimberley Drive Reserve Off Leash Dog Park is close by, or try the paths at Cherry Hill Way Reserve.

Best on cool mornings, and a handy pick after rain, when the concrete stays clean underfoot.
