Gowanbrae Community Reserve

Gowanbrae Community Reserve on Marigold Crescent looks out over the Moonee Ponds Creek valley, with the old railway trestle bridge below and the city skyline in the distance. Dogs are welcome on a leash, and the rules around play areas and the creek are strict.

Lead rules

Merri-bek City Council requires dogs to be on a leash in the reserve. They are banned within 15 metres of playgrounds and from the creek itself, and must be leashed within 15 metres of sporting grounds.

The walk

Concrete paths wind past the lawns and an outdoor gym, so you can fit in a few exercises while the dog sniffs. Native shade trees are scattered around the walking circuit.

There is a drinking fountain and a tap near the playground and barbecue area. Parking is near the community centre.

For off-lead play, Elms Court Dog Park is fully fenced with separate zones for big and small dogs. Elmhurst Park Fenced Dog Park in Gladstone Park is another fenced choice.

When to go

Pick a clear day for the skyline views. The paved paths suit dogs of any age, but keep them well away from the creek, however tempting it looks.
