Kiama Coast Walk at Werri Lagoon

Werri Lagoon marks the southern end of the Kiama Coast Walk, and what gets called the Werri Lagoon Walk is really that final stretch of the coast walk at Gerringong and Werri Beach. It is a grassy, clifftop and sandy route, and dogs come on lead.

On the track

The surface changes as you go. Grass paths cross the headland, clifftop sections turn to dirt and rock, and the route crosses sand near the lagoon and beach.

The views are why people walk it, with open Pacific, dark volcanic headlands, the calm lagoon and green hills rolling down to the coast.

Lead rules

Kiama Municipal Council allows dogs on lead along the coastal track, but some sensitive sections of the wider coast walk are closed to dogs, so follow the signs.

For a swim, Werri Beach has an off-lead zone between Miller Street and Moore Street, reached by timber-fenced beach tracks. Outside it, the lead stays on.

Water and shade

There is little shade on the lagoon and coastal path, and water points on the track are limited. Bubblers sit near the surf club and main reserves, and bins are at the beach access points.

Street and reserve parking is off Pacific Avenue.

Max: Clifftops and lagoon edges on one walk make the lead non-negotiable. Keep it short near the edge.

Make a day of it

Continue to the Gerringong Headland dog off-leash area, then finish at The Hill Bar & Kitchen in Gerringong.

Go early on warm days, as the exposed track heats quickly. It suits fit dogs comfortable on uneven ground.
