Wandering Escapes manages a collection of styled holiday homes around Gerringong and the wider South Coast, about two hours south of Sydney. Homes such as The View are listed as dog-friendly, and others like Dunes on Sandy Wha offer a secure garden, but fit and rules vary property to property, so read the individual listing before committing. Declare your dog at the time of booking, expect a pet fee may apply, and get it included in the final quote. House rules are the usual: dogs stay off furniture and linen, and you bring your own bedding and bowls. An undeclared dog risks a breach of terms, so keep the paperwork clean.

Getting there and getting out

Gerringong sits off the Princes Highway about two hours from Sydney by car. Once you are in town, most of what you need is close: Werri Beach allows dogs off-leash at the council-signed headland end and on-lead elsewhere, Fern Street cafes put out dog-friendly tables, and the headland walking paths run right through town.

Make a day of it

Base yourself at the house and work outwards. Werri Beach Holiday Park is the alternative if your travel group prefers a park setup, and Clay Coffee Collective and Missi Moo Moo cover morning coffee with the dog tied up nearby. For dinner with water views, The Hill Bar & Kitchen is the local pick.
