Macquarie Park

Macquarie Park sits on the northern bank of the Hawkesbury River in Freemans Reach, across the Windsor Bridge from Windsor's historic centre. Dogs are welcome on lead, and the river views are the reason to come.

Lead rules

Hawkesbury City Council requires dogs to be on lead in its public parklands and reserves, and that includes this park.

You will often see dogs down on the sandy river edge, but the lead rule still applies there.

The walk

Wide paved paths run through open green space beside the river. You can join it up with the Windsor foreshore by walking across the bridge, passing heritage markers and long views along the Hawkesbury.

Mature trees give some shade along the river, though the open grass is exposed at midday. Bins sit near the picnic areas and entry points.

Pepsi: Pack a bottle and a travel bowl. Dog taps are easier to find at the fenced dog parks than along the river paths.

Make a day of it

Stop for a coffee at Macquarie Park Boathouse Cafe, then cross back over for an off-lead run at Deerubbin Park Fenced Dog Park.

Morning or late afternoon works best, before the lawns heat up. The flat paths make it an easy outing for older dogs.
